PARIS – Some twists and turns in the women's draw with a few surprising semifinalists in Mary Pierce and Elena Likhovtseva. Less of a surprise are the appearances of Justine Henin-Hardenne and Nadia Petrova in this round. But my pick in that matchup might prove to be another shocker.

Semifinal picks
Elena Likhovtseva (16), Russia vs. Mary Pierce (21), France
I have not picked Mary Pierce in the last two matches and I've obviously been very wrong. Actually, happily so, as Pierce could be the story of the year in the majors if she wins two more matches.
