PARIS – It's no secret that Americans struggle on clay. With the exception of some tough baseliners such as Jim Courier, Americans have always struggled on clay.
It's not a major cause of concern, though, because Americans' games are suited for three of the four Slams. No, I'm not concerned about poor efforts and results at Roland Garros, where no American men have gotten past the second round for the past two years. Instead, I'm concerned about how it hurts the American program at a lower level on other surfaces.
