Why the U.S. lost out to Qatar

Yeah, it's fix -- er, political. Sure, it's crook -- uh, lacks transparency. And yes, it's all about oil mone -- excuse us, new markets.

But the U.S. didn't lose the 2022 World Cup bid because of shenanigans. At least not solely because of shenanigans. The beating the Yanks took in the voting showed that. The U.S. was never close, gaining just three votes in the first round, to Qatar's 11, and falling 14-8 in the knockout stage.
