First the obvious: with Mexico's U-23 team through to the final of the Toulon tournament for the first time in history, the week on balance has been quite positive for Luis Tena and crew. It hasn't all been pastries and escargot in France for El Tri, though -- the team had to weather some tough moments to navigate the group stage.
Here are a few developments, both positive and negative, from the last week in France as the Olympic team draws ever nearer to the big date in England.
Headed into the final on Friday, Fabian not only leads the tournament in scoring with an eye-popping seven goals in four games, but has tied the legendary Alan Shearer for the all-time high at a Toulon event that has included plenty of famous names in the past. Securing that crown in the final would not only give Fabian a distinctive honor, but place even more attention on him from around Europe. Teams including Marseille and Lyon are already rumored to be interested, though they can expect a fight from Chivas if they want to sign Fabian this summer.
