Jermaine Jones on his injury, U.S. future
Jermaine Jones has a little extra time on his hands these days. With two games remaining on his three-match suspension for a straight red card -- a ban that was recently reduced from four games -- the U.S. midfielder is cooling his heels as club team Schalke prepares to resume its schedule Friday against Hannover following the Bundesliga's annual month-long winter break.
Even when he's not playing, though, Jones has a way of making news. Before winning his appeal to the German soccer federation, he was named, along with Maurice Edu, as a potential late addition to the national team's January camp. Then this week, word spread that Jones had suffered an unspecified injury while training with Schalke in Qatar.
To find out more about the recent news surrounding Jones, Insider chatted earlier this week by phone with the 31-year-old German-American, who had just returned to his native Frankfurt following Schalke's trip to the Middle East.
