Edu's moment arrives

March, 1, 2010

AMSTERDAM -- When a U.S. national teamer creates a big moment the way midfielder Maurice Edu did this weekend, it generates ripples, literally, around the soccer world.

How do we know this? The USMNT Insider blog was hard at work Sunday at a pub in Amsterdam, preparing to cover the U.S.-Netherlands friendly here on Wednesday by watching several national teamers in action with their clubs. A nearby patron from Aberdeen showed an intense interest in the Rangers-Celtic match, and he brightened upon meeting an American who followed the club.

To read about how Maurice Edu's performance for Rangers over the weekend could help earn him a key role for the U.S. national team, starting with a friendly against the Netherlands, you must be an ESPN Insider.
