ABOUT THIS BLOG
El Tri: The Mexican National Team blog
Have you ever worn an Aztec headdress to a stadium? Have you ever put on a lucha libre mask to watch a soccer game on your couch? Have you ever worn your Mexico jersey to a special occasion and tried to pass it off as formal wear? Then you've come to the right place. Insider's El Tri blog will be your English language authority on the Mexican national team. The first blog of its kind, El Tri will provide regular up to date reports on the Mexican national teams of all levels, whether it's Chicharito, or the next superstar on one of the youth teams. We'll provide exclusive game reports, player features and analysis.
Eric Gomez is a freelance writer who covers Mexico's national team for ESPN Insider. Born in Chula Vista, California to Mexican parents, his first exposure to the beautiful game came from watching a documentary on Pele's stint with the New York Cosmos, which featured a cameo from a certain Mexican star named Hugo Sanchez. Based in Mexico City, he has covered El Tri through World Cup qualifiers, Gold Cups, Copa America and Olympic qualifiers.
Tom Marshall has specialized in writing about Mexican soccer for the last three years. As well as contributing to ESPN's El Tri blog, he co-hosts The Mexican Soccer Show podcast alongside Eric Gomez. Tom also covers Latin American leagues outside of Mexico, as well as the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. A native of Manchester, England, he has been based in Guadalajara since 2008.
