Roll down the red carpet, pop the champagne and let the award speeches begin -- it's ESPN Insider El Tri blog's annual year-end awards. OK, maybe they don't live up to the glamour of certain other end-of-year awards, but after a standout year of 10 victories in 12 games for El Tri, it's more than worth taking a look at which players deserve to be crowned by our humble selves (here is last year's version).

As a side note, these awards are based solely on performances for the full national team, not the Olympic gold-winning squad.

So, without any further ado, here are the top El Tri players by positional group for 2012:

Best forward: Chicharito

It's not been a plain sailing 2012 like 2011 was for Javier Hernandez. The World Cup qualifier against Guyana in October marked a low point of sorts for Hernandez, with his chipped penalty bouncing back off the bar early in the game and a series of spectacular miscues, miscontrols and misses following. To add insult to injury, his lack of playing time with Manchester United was becoming worrisome for fans of El Tri.

So why is he the best forward of 2012?
