Peralta leads possible roster additions
With Mexico having finished its summer qualification schedule with wins against Guyana and El Salvador, it's not too soon to look ahead toward September home-and-home matches against Costa Rica on the 7th and 11th. These two matches should determine the winner of the qualification group.
Though the matches are less than three months away, it's not unreasonable to think that Mexico's roster could look somewhat different. Barring injury, the core group of Javier Hernandez, Gio dos Santos, Andres Guardado, Jesus Zavala, Hector Moreno, Javier Rodriguez and Carlos Salcido are almost certainties to be starters, but this summer's Olympics and the start of the Mexican first division could provide other surprise additions.
Who could have predicted three months ago that right back Severo Meza would have played such an important role for Mexico this summer?
Here are a list of names you might see on the senior national team in September for those Costa Rica matches (percentage of likelihood will be in parentheses) who were not on El Tri's roster this summer:
F Oribe Peralta (90 percent): Peralta, the Mexican league's best striker this past year, was scheduled to be on Mexico's squad, but an injury in the Clausura final knocked him out of contention. The Santos forward is all but a certainty to be on the team barring another injury or a severe drop in form.
