Olympic hopes for El Tri's stars
At the conclusion of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament, Mexico's championship squad disassembled and reintegrated back into their respective club teams.
All but two players (Alan Pulido and the injured David Cabrera) who were in Mexico's starting lineup in the Olympic qualification clincher against Canada were in their club team's starting lineup last weekend. Of those nine who started, eight played an entire 90 minutes (Javier Aquino played 73 minutes for Cruz Azul). Even Pulido entered Tigres' game as a 59th-minute substitute in the crosstown duel with Monterrey.
Suffice it to say, these celebrated players have an important role on their teams. And yet, the majority of them will have to reclaim a spot on the Olympic team.
