Not the Ram you think

One of my friends e-mails me often, not about whom he should be starting for the pending week, but about his bench options and whom should go. His team is stacked, but as a veteran fantasy player, he knows that means little on the first day of October. The bench will be needed. One always has to look forward, especially when a strong starting lineup affords that luxury. That's what this weekly "sneaky pickup" blog is about, not necessarily about this week, but as with the Charlie Whitehurst blog from last Friday, planning ahead.

On Thursday's Fantasy Focus podcast -- can you believe there is now an Eric Karabell "Name Game" drop? -- I asked colleagues Matthew Berry and Christopher Harris if it's time to call St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson brittle. There's no denying Jackson's talent, and I ranked him as the No. 6 running back for this season and continue to rely on him in leagues, but I don't know if he will play Sunday, and as the Rams become more viable -- I'm calling for a win this week -- I'm paying more attention to their depth.

To find out which Rams running back has caught Eric Karabell's attention, as well as three other sneaky pickups to make, you must be an ESPN Insider!
