Um, you've watched the past four weeks, right? No chance I'd rather have McGahee, who comes off three consecutive goose eggs, than Jonathan Stewart, Knowshon Moreno or LaDainian Tomlinson, who have fewer season points. Looking too closely at season numbers gets you nowhere, unless it's in trade discussions. "Look, I'll trade you Julius Jones for Carolina Steve Smith. You're robbing me! Jones has a lot more points this year!" Sure, whatever.
I print out the scoring leaders each week to see what's surprising, like No. 12 overall quarterback Eli Manning having outscored every wide receiver in fantasy, or the Saints' defense having bested Kurt Warner and Andre Johnson. But it's more for fun than anything else. Overall stock doesn't really rise and fall based on season scoring leaders; those are just numbers. It's the trends that we should all be watching. And here are the trends I'm noticing this week:
