A friend of mine e-mailed me Tuesday morning with the good news: He and his girlfriend were in the car heading to a mall just before the early games Sunday -- Really? On the first Sunday of the season? We gotta talk -- listening to me wax poetic about whom to start and sit on ESPN Radio, and I recommended Flacco as a good option against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. (What, you were expecting the news to be a proposal, little bundle of joy announcement or the pending purchase of a new 75-inch flat screen?)
So this guy's girlfriend says she wants to switch her starting quarterback from Ryan to Flacco and she turns her phone on and does it. Isn't technology great? I remember when every member of our league back in the day had to call the commissioner with all moves at least a day in advance. Then we waited for the postman to deliver the results by the next Thursday! But I digress. Of course, I hadn't really said Flacco was a better play than Ryan, but she made the move anyway. In retrospect, I would have said such a thing, as we all know now.
