A friend of mine e-mailed me Tuesday morning with the good news: He and his girlfriend were in the car heading to a mall just before the early games Sunday -- Really? On the first Sunday of the season? We gotta talk … -- listening to me wax poetic about whom to start and sit on ESPN Radio, and I recommended Flacco as a good option against the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. (What, you were expecting the news to be a proposal, little bundle of joy announcement or the pending purchase of a new 75-inch flat screen?)
So this guy's girlfriend says she wants to switch her starting quarterback from Ryan to Flacco … and she turns her phone on and does it. Isn't technology great? I remember when every member of our league back in the day had to call the commissioner with all moves at least a day in advance. Then we waited for the postman to deliver the results by the next Thursday! But I digress. Of course, I hadn't really said Flacco was a better play than Ryan, but she made the move anyway. In retrospect, I would have said such a thing, as we all know now.
