Some pitchers have good enough raw stuff that they can get away with things at times when their mechanics are off. However, the Cleveland Indians' Fausto Carmona is not really one of them.

Carmona's game is all about keeping his mechanics in sync in order to get his sinker working and doing what he wants it to do. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case lately.

I saw Carmona during spring training, and wrote at the time that I liked the rhythm he had settled into in his delivery: "There have been some encouraging things this spring. … After reportedly doing a lot of work this offseason on his mechanics, he does appear to be slightly smoother and able to repeat his delivery a little more. Carmona needs a ton of good sinkers to be effective, and the movement has been there, even if his location has been spotty at times. Again, he has teased us before, but I've seen enough good things from him that I might try and stash him away on reserve in deep AL formats."
