Entering this season, the Detroit Tigers' Andrew Oliver was probably known more for something that took place off the field (his lawsuit against the NCAA) than what he was doing on it.

However, when the Tigers decided to send Rick Porcello back to Triple-A to find the sink on his fastball and work on his slider, they aggressively promoted Oliver to the big leagues to fill the void in the rotation. After making his pro debut in last year's Arizona Fall League, Oliver made just 14 starts in the minors -- he had 70 strikeouts, 25 walks and a 3.61 ERA in 77 1/3 innings at Double-A -- before being asked to get big league hitters out. Oliver has made three starts since reaching the show: A solid debut, an OK second start that included three unearned runs and a 1 2/3-inning clunker Monday.
