Posey's struggles among 10 tidbits from AFL

November, 2, 2009
Some Monday tidbits from the Arizona Fall League, based on my own observations and conversations with other scouts:

1. San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey has had a rough time of it at the Fall League, both offensively and defensively, with a slow bat, plus problems blocking and receiving behind the dish. However, we can't read anything into that. More than one scout has questioned why he's even here. He looks very tired and is going through the motions after the grind of a long season. He still is likely to be the Opening Day catcher next season and can have success right away.

2. Mitch Moreland, a Texas Rangers outfielder, has turned some heads here. Some scouts have put a big grade on him on the 20-80 scale, but there are others who are concerned his bat might be a little too slow, despite his understanding of the strike zone. I'll have a more comprehensive scouting report on him in the near future.
