Pit crews stake their claim

May, 19, 2010

Matt Clark and Ray Wright know people think they're crazy for constantly equating baseball to NASCAR pit stops. But instead of rolling their eyes, the doubters should be listening ... especially the competition.

Clark has been the Director of Human Performance and Leadership Development at Richard Childress Racing since 2008. Wright is RCR's Strength & Conditioning Coach and, like Clark, is in his third season with the team. On their watch, RCR pit crews have gone from OK to pretty good to great.

On Wednesday night, Jeff Burton's Caterpillar crew will hit the floor of Charlotte's Time Warner Cable Arena as the defending champions of the NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge. Or, as Clark and Wright like to call it, the World Series of pit stops.

To read more about how pit crews are increasingly changing the outcome of NASCAR races, you must be an Insider.
