McGee was born in Rockingham, NC, the son of Dave Marcis's gas can man and a lifelong member of the Richard Petty and Harry Gant fan clubs. He's the author of ESPN Ultimate NASCAR: 100 Defining Moments in Stock Car Racing History" and "The Road To Omaha: Hits, Hopes, and History at the College World Series."
