Detroit move would reshape NHL

By now, word of a major NHL realignment a year from now is fairly common knowledge. The shifts will probably result in the Detroit Red Wings and/or Columbus Blue Jackets heading to the Eastern Conference before the 2012-13 season.

Both teams would welcome the switch -- this much we know.

But how would the rest of the league be affected from a competitive point of view?
