It's a safe assumption that Boston University freshman defenseman Adam Clendening has Dec. 3 circled on his calendar. That's when Clendening's Terriers play the first of two consecutive games against rival Eagles of Boston College ... the team that pulled his scholarship offer last season.
As a highly sought-after recruit with the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP), Clendening originally gave a verbal commitment to BC. But the Eagles wanted an assurance he'd enroll at BC this fall. Clendening, who was still considering the Ontario Hockey League, wasn't ready to give that commitment. When the program pressed and threatened to pull his scholarship, Clendening took a pass, BC made good on its promise and the D-man re-entered the recruiting market. The Eagles' rival was only too happy to accommodate him.
