What is happening in New Jersey?

The league went a little hat trick crazy over the weekend. There were a trio of hat tricks on Friday night and another three on Saturday. According to Eric Hornick's Forever1940 blog, that hasn't happened since the 1987-88 season. Oddly enough, during that year, it happened twice in a two-week span in late February/early March.

In my home state of New Jersey, the local hockey team went a little crazy, too. In the Devils' case, however, it didn't have anything to do with scoring. Here's today's edition of the Monday 10.

1. On Saturday night, the Devils and their $100 million star Ilya Kovalchuk again hijacked the attention of the hockey world. And they did it in a way that no one would've guessed. First-year head coach John MacLean decided sometime on Saturday afternoon that Kovalchuk would not be dressing for the evening's home contest against the Buffalo Sabres.

Was it something he said? Was it something he did? Was it something he didn't do?
