Los Angeles Kings rookie stopper Jonathan Bernier is scheduled to get his second start of the new season tonight against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes; head coach Terry Murray has an early-season plan to get Bernier about 25 starts this year behind incumbent No. 1 Jonathan Quick, who has been terrific in the early going.
In his first game, Bernier stopped 29 of 31 shots during a low-scoring loss to the Calgary Flames. He skates into a good spot tonight, behind a rested team against a travel-weary Carolina squad that played last night. On home ice, a good team -- and that's what we think the Kings are -- takes care of business. With his three late-season victories last year now a fading memory, Bernier needs to put up a W tonight.
Here are a few thoughts about the other six rookie goalies that have seen action in the early part of the season.
