In one day, pucks drop. I'm pumped.

With another season, there's another freshman class looking to impress. Last year, rangy Buffalo Sabres D Tyler Myers skated away with top rookie honors. Myers pushed his way into my monthly Calder Watch rankings with his consistently strong play on the blue line in Buffalo.

Who'll take home the rookie hardware this season? It's hard to say (although my colleagues and I offered up some guesses). At this time last season, I'm sure Myers' name wasn't rolling off everyone's tongue. I know I didn't pick him as a preseason favorite. Right now, there are at least a dozen legit candidates. I've narrowed down that list to five names for my first Calder Watch of the new season. Take a look.

1. P.K. Subban, D, Montreal Canadiens
