Although Wednesday's chatter will center on the NHL's decision on the 15-year, $100 million contract between the New Jersey Devils and star sniper Ilya Kovalchuk, I decided to scan the league's payroll lists to find some guys who offer big bang for the buck.

After a review of the financial figures, I offer the Hradek All-Bargain team.

It will consist of three forwards, two defensemen and a goalie. That makes sense, right? I didn't include any player on an entry-level contract. That would be cheating, I think.

The combined cap hit for the six players I've chosen is $11,641,667. In real dollars, the group will earn a combined $13,875,000 during the 2010-11 season. (All contract figures are from CapGeek.com, an NHL salary-cap information source.) I think those are pretty affordable numbers.

My group is also young. None of these six players has reached his 30th birthday; although three of my selections will be in line for a hefty raise next summer, the three other players will remain under contract for at least one more season (after this one).

Let's get to it.
