VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- What a day! It was wall-to-wall hockey at GM (I mean, Canada Hockey) Place. Throughout the tournament, I'll give you daily observations from the rink as well as a look at the upcoming action. But first, some news from the NHL trade front.

As I mentioned in my contribution to Insider's team-by-team trade-deadline series, Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford told me that he's been receiving calls regarding defenseman Joe Corvo in addition to winger Ray Whitney. The Canes' GM said he hadn't considered moving the veteran defenseman, but if he could fetch the right price -- and judging by his tone, "right" equals "steep" -- he'd pull the trigger. Keep your eyes peeled for a move here after the Olympic roster freeze ends.

In the meantime, though, we have some great hockey ahead of us. Here's my breakdown of Tuesday's slate and a look ahead.
