Here are a couple of quick thoughts from the weekend:

• Sidney Crosby's first NHL trip to Western Canada did not disappoint. The suddenly hot Penguins won all three games, two of those via shootout. On Saturday night, Crosby had a chance to ice the Canucks with the rare overtime penalty shot. Vancouver defenseman Aaron Miller made a diving attempt to stop a streaking Crosby, who still got a shot off on the play. The scoring chance, however, had been significantly altered, so referees Tom Kowal and Chris Lee wisely awarded Crosby a penalty shot. The Kid made a terrific backhand-to-forehand move, but Canucks stopper Roberto Luongo made a better save. Crosby got a second crack at Luongo in the shootout, but he was again denied. Pens rookie defenseman Kris Letang, already something of a shootout wiz, managed to beat Luongo to clinch the victory. After an 8-11-2 start, Pittsburgh has won seven of its last eight games.
