Morning Skate: Why change is good

This season, at least in the short term, the three teams that have fired a GM or coach have experienced a turn for the better. That's bad news for other coaches and managers who are under the gun. Aware of the current trend and itching to do something, owners and managers might be quicker to pull the trigger.

In Atlanta, the Thrashers have made a dramatic turnaround under GM/interim coach Don Waddell. After a 0-6-0 start under former coach Bob Hartley (fired on Oct. 17), the Thrashers have gone 11-6-0 in their last 17 games and are less dump-and-chase, attacking more off the rush. That plays more to the strengths of skill guys like Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa.
