On Opening Night last season, the Avalanche blew a 2-0 third period lead en route to a 3-2 overtime loss to the visiting Stars. As it turned out, that lost point may have been the difference between making or missing the playoffs. The Avs finished one point behind the Flames for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. I remember the game because I listened to the second period on satellite radio as I was driving home from my own hockey game. It was the Avalanche broadcast, and in between periods, the announcers couldn't say enough about what a dominant performance their boys were putting forward. When I got home, I was surprised to find Colorado blew the lead and lost in OT.
