It seems that Maxim Afinogenov's hands are catching up with his feet. Since arriving on the NHL scene during the 1999-2000 season, the Buffalo winger has been one of the game's most explosive skaters. When I first saw him, as a member of Russia's gold medal-winning world junior team at the 1999 tournament in Winnipeg, his dynamic feet made him a man among boys. Even then, it was still clear that his hands just couldn't keep up with those fast feet. If they had, he would have been the next Pavel Bure.
Last season, Afinogenov had a breakthrough year, posting career bests with 22 goals, 51 assists and 73 points.
