The New York Rangers continue to hang around the final playoff spot in the East, a bit of an underachievement for a team many pegged as a Stanley Cup winner before the season began. But there's still plenty of hope for those who expected big things from the Rangers last season. Last year's champs were in the same position late in the 2011-12 campaign, but Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi's aggressive approach to the trade deadline, adding Jeff Carter, helped put them over the top. It's not a reach to say that the Kings don't win the Cup without Lombardi's aggressiveness.
