As the playoff teams get settled and the matchups are finalized, it has to be a strange time to be a player with the Anaheim Ducks. For months, the Ducks have been playing as well as anybody in hockey, and yet their season is quietly coming to an end.
They entered this week with a record of 23-14-5 since Jan. 1. That was the best record among Pacific teams and fourth-best among Western Conference teams.
They won Thursday night and finish the season in Calgary on Saturday in a game that few outside those two markets will notice.
The emotions are mixed in Anaheim. There's a lot to like about this team moving forward, but there's nothing to like about missing the playoffs for the second time in three years.
