Last year at the prospect tournament in Traverse City, Mich., Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford raved about a highly skilled kid he thought would make a big impact in the league one day. The kid, Jeff Skinner, just had to prove he could maintain a consistent, high level of play to go with his standout skills.
"He's going to make our team; it's just a matter of when," Rutherford said of Skinner.
When? It turned out to be immediately, with Skinner emerging as one of the game's brightest young stars last season.
This year, Rutherford was asked whether he had another Skinner in the mix during Carolina's annual trip north to compete with the prospects from seven other teams.
