| NFL Team: Houston Texans 2008 Picks | ||||
| RD | PK(OVR) | NAME | POS | SCHOOL |
| 1 | 26(26) | Duane Brown | OT | Virginia Tech |
| From Jaguars through Ravens | ||||
Houston clearly placed an emphasis on need over value. Brown is a reach because he's not a great drive-blocker and he can get pushed into the backfield by bull rushes. On the flip side, he's a former tight end who has the quick feet, athletic ability and initial burst to develop into an outstanding pass-blocker and an effective starter on the left side. It's also worth pointing out that he was the best tackle left on the board (seventh rated overall). Video ![]() Complete analysis | ||||
| 3 | 16(79) | Antwaun Molden | CB | Eastern Kentucky |
| Molden played at a small school and in a simple scheme, which didn't allow him to showcase his abilities. As a result, there are some concerns about his ability to make the jump to the NFL. However, he made this less of a concern with a strong showing at the combine and the Texas all-star game. He clearly has the size, athletic ability and speed to develop into a starting corner down the road. He should also make an impact in the return game. Complete analysis | ||||
| 3 | 26(89) | Steve Slaton | RB | West Virginia |
| From Jaguars through Ravens | ||||
| Slaton is undersized and he goes down far too easily. In addition, he has struggled to stay healthy during his career. However, he's quick enough to turn the corner and shows good elusiveness in the open field. Complete analysis | ||||
| 4 | 19(118) | Xavier Adibi | OLB | Virginia Tech |
| Adibi will struggle in run support, but he is a good value here. He has good sideline-to-sideline speed and can run with backs in coverage. | ||||
| 5 | 16(151) | Frank Okam | DT | Texas |
| Okam is a classic underachiever. Although he has outstanding size and flashes great lateral mobility, he's extremely inconsistent. He takes far too many plays off and appears to wear down. There are also questions about his work ethic and love for the game. | ||||
| 6 | 7(173) | Dominique Barber | S | Minnesota |
| From Ravens | ||||
| He plays a lot like his older brother -- Dallas RB Marion Barber: aggressive and physical. Dominique fills hard in run support and fights off blocks, though he has limitations in coverage because he doesn't have great speed or ideal athletic ability. | ||||
| 7 | 16(223) | Alex Brink | QB | Washington State |
| He has adequate feet, good pocket awareness and has shown solid ability to buy time in the pocket. He shows excellent ball skills and can freeze linebackers with fakes. He has questionable arm strength, though, and it remains to be seen if he can put enough zip on the ball at the next level. He also holds on to the ball too long and takes too many steps. | ||||
