How do the Dolphins cope with the loss of DE Phillip Merling for the season?

Phillip Merling, the Miami Dolphins' projected starting defensive end, is lost for the 2010 season with a torn Achilles tendon. Merling has developed into an effective player in the 3-4 despite not having any exposure to it at Clemson. As 3-4 defensive ends go, Merling clearly is an above-average athlete.
