Top offseason needs: NFC West
The most pressing holes to fill for Cardinals, 49ers, Seahawks and Rams
Welcome to the 2013 version of Insider's offseason staple series: Plugging the Holes. This marks the fifth of an eight-part examination in which Football Outsiders identifies the biggest needs for every NFL team, division by division, going into the 2013 offseason.
The series continues Monday with Outsiders' look at the NFC West.

Arizona Cardinals: Quarterback
No matter how you slice it, Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley and Brian Hoyer were just plain awful last season. Arizona's pass offense ranked 28th in yardage, 29th in completion percentage, 31st in touchdowns, 32nd in interceptions and 32nd in sacks allowed. No Arizona quarterback appears on the ESPN Total QBR ratings list because not one of them had enough pass attempts to qualify, but if we expand that list to all 39 quarterbacks with at least 100 pass attempts, Kolb would be 32nd (38.0), Skelton 38th (13.9) and Lindley 39th (9.8).
If we want to go further back in time, we need to switch from Total QBR to Football Outsiders' DVOA and DYAR stats, which currently are tracked back to 1991. Kolb, Skelton and Lindley comprised the first trio of signal-calling teammates since 2004 -- and only the sixth since 1991 -- to each finish in the bottom 11 according to Football Outsiders' DYAR measure of total player value (explained here).
