How the Texans can improve

It's always disappointing as a coach when a postseason run comes to an end, but it's especially disappointing when there are great expectations. And that was exactly the case for the Houston Texans this season.

A team that was 11-1 and staring at a No. 1 seed and a first-round bye, the Texans lost three of their final four games and stumbled into the postseason as the No. 3 seed. After a win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Texans were trounced by the New England Patriots on Sunday 41-28.

With a strong team in place and a weak AFC South division, the Texans should be one of the AFC's powerhouses again in 2013. But they have plenty of room for improvement.

Here are three ways the Texans can get better next season.

Get a wide receiver to stretch the field

Let's get this out of the way: Matt Schaub isn't an elite quarterback, but he's a perfect fit in Houston's offensive system. I don't think the Texans need to look in the draft for a QB to develop. Schaub can run this offense and make all of the necessary throws, but he just needs to cut down on his mistakes. Plus, he signed a four-year, $62 million contract (with $24.75 million guaranteed) before the season. He isn't going anywhere.
