What to expect from Nick Foles
If the rookie is given a shot, the numbers aren't in his favor to succeed
Michael Vick's concussion against the Dallas Cowboys may have signaled the end of the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff hopes this season, and, more importantly, it may have signaled the end of Vick and coach Andy Reid in midnight green. Those two are symbols of the Eagles' past, but the future lies in rookie quarterback Nick Foles. A third-round draft pick out of Arizona, Foles saw his first NFL regular-season action Sunday after Vick went down. Predictably, he suffered through some lows (giving the Cowboys one touchdown on an interception and another on a fumble) as well as some highs (most notably a 44-yard touchdown to Jeremy Maclin), and, at the end of the day, the Eagles once again had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
With his team realistically out of the playoff race, Reid might choose to start Foles now to see what the youngster can do. And even if Reid wants to stick with his veteran, as he indicated to be his initial preference after Sunday's game, Vick might not recover in time for this week's game against Washington. Either way, Foles is likely to see extended action at some point this season. Is there any reason for optimism if he starts?
