'Tis the season of giving, and while for most of us that involves being excited about what lurks under our Christmas tree or eagerly anticipating presents at other holiday gatherings, dozens of NFL players will receive their "gifts" when they hit free agency.
So this week, we at Pro Football Focus are going to look at some of the best offensive and defensive players set to hit the open market in 2014, examining what makes them valuable, why they might be expendable and possible team fits.
Note that next to each player we've listed their grades, as rated by Pro Football Focus.
Can we call coach Marc Trestman's system quarterback-friendly? Josh McCown sits ahead of Cutler in our rankings with a plus-16.6 grade, and it's for that reason that the unthinkable may happen -- a franchise quarterback could hit the open market. It's a difficult decision for GM Phil Emery because Cutler won't be cheap, and in a deep quarterback class, you could find someone to groom while McCown fills in admirably, as he has done this season.
