After watching film of both teams, Scouts Inc. breaks down key elements of the Week 2 Lions-49ers matchup.
• Get the ball out quickly on offense: Detroit offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will want to go with a short, quick passing game, especially early on. The 49ers started the season right where they left off in 2011, boasting one of the toughest defenses in the NFL especially against the run. Their exceptional defensive personnel allows them to stop the run with their base defense while still blitzing their explosive linebackers off the edge on passing downs. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford won't have much time in the pocket and will have to rely on a lot of one- and three-step drops to help him get the ball out before the pass rush gets to him.
