After watching film of both teams, Scouts Inc. breaks down key elements of the Week 1 Jaguars-Vikings matchup.
• Establish balance for the Vikings' young quarterback: Christian Ponder has made noticeable progress in the preseason. Minnesota has a big, physical offensive line that should be able to run the football effectively. This should give Ponder manageable third-down conversions. Look for offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to expand the playbook for the second-year signal-caller by mixing the running game with short-to-intermediate play-action passing in the opener.
