Nolan brings fresh attitude
If you needed to know the definition of the word "rebuilding," you need merely look at the 2005 49ers.
Niners owner John York begins this season with another set of fresh faces on the football side of his operation. When York was installed as owner of the 49ers in 2000, he inherited head coach Steve Mariucci and general manager Bill Walsh.
Walsh was phased out; Mariucci was fired after the 2002 season; and Terry Donahue was promoted to general manager, with Dennis Erickson being hired as coach. After last season's 2-14 debacle, Erickson and Donahue were fired and York hired head coach Mike Nolan and vice president of player personnel Scot McCloughan. York can only hope his third regime will be his best.
