The Eagles face more challenges than ever this season, both on the field and in their locker room. The euphoria over reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in 24 years quickly evaporated amidst a slew of contract disputes, bizarre injuries, petty feuds among teammates and even a much-publicized spat between coach Andy Reid and petulant WR Terrell Owens.
In contrast to last offseason, the Eagles reverted to their conservative approach to free agency and made a minor splash by signing backup QB Mike McMahon. They also opted to let aging-but-popular veterans such as Pro Bowl special teamer Ike Reese and OG Jermane Mayberry leave, as well as DE Derrick Burgess, WR Freddie Mitchell, LB Nate Wayne and TE Chad Lewis.
