In Arizona, Whiz flipped play-call script

A few months ago when former Ravens coach Brian Billick told me "talent dictates strategy in the NFL" I was in the middle of challenging this notion -- and to some degree complimenting and boosting the importance of his profession -- when he coldly cut me off in mid sentence. "Look, if that wasn't the case," said Billick, "then coaches would earn the kind of money players make and vice versa."

Indeed, money talks. And in the NFL it screams. As a result, one of the biggest traps for young, inexperienced head coaches is the toxic mix of ego and power that makes them believe they need to put their own "stamp" on a team rather than customize their schemes to the expensive talent all ready in place.
