Who are the Super Bowl X factors?
Saints RB Reggie Bush and Colts DT Raheem Brock could be difference-makers
After breaking down film and critiquing the teams playing in the Super Bowl XLIV, Scouts Inc. tells you who the X factors will be Sunday.
Saints RB Reggie Bush
Bush defines the term X factor. He is one of the few players in this game who can create mismatches at nearly every level of the field. Though the Saints' screen game will not be nearly as effective versus the Colts' less-blitz-happy Cover 2 defense, it does not mean Bush can't be effective. One of the areas in which Bush excels is stretching the seam versus the Cover 2. Indianapolis Colts MLB Gary Brackett lacks the foot quickness to keep up with Bush down the middle of the field. Look for the Saints to use Bush more in the intermediate passing game, where he can find more room to roam against the Colts' Cover 2 looks.
Colts DT Raheem Brock
In what probably will be a game-time decision, Brock could wind up stepping in for Dwight Freeney, and there is not as much of a drop-off here as you might think. Right now Brock contributes in sub packages, mostly as a DT, but he has the athleticism to either drop into coverage or rush the quarterback. He will line up across from struggling Saints LT Jermon Bushrod, and the Saints probably will think they can get away without giving Bushrod help in this matchup. That would leave Brock in one-on-one situations -- which he can and will win. We also probably will see the Colts play more games with twists and stunts with their front four if Freeney isn't ready to go.
