Gregg Williams needs to dial it up
Best strategy to knock off Peyton: blitz often -- and blitz six
What this is: Football Outsiders will be breaking down the big game from a few different angles. For more information on the types of stats that Football Outsiders use when analyzing the NFL, go here.
The strength of the New Orleans Saints' defense comes from the blitz. Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning eats blitzes for breakfast. The team with the upper hand in this strength-against-strength matchup will have a big advantage in the Super Bowl. Based on recent history between Manning's Colts and Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' previous teams, plus this year's blitz numbers, we think the Saints can win that matchup, especially if they turn their aggressiveness up to 11.
If bringing pressure against Peyton Manning just plays into his hands, what are the blitz-happy New Orleans Saints supposed to do on defense? Football Outsiders has the answer, but you must be an ESPN Insider to see their recipe for a Saints victory.
