Mawae, Coles, Little and Culpepper need homes; are they fits anywhere?
A couple of weeks ago, my ESPN.com colleague Paul Kuharsky wrote an interesting story about former Tennessee Titans and New York Jets center Kevin Mawae. Mawae wondered aloud during a radio interview why he couldn't even get a single phone call from any NFL team despite playing a full season in 2009 and making the Pro Bowl. He conjectured that it was possible that his position as the NFLPA's president might have something to do with it.
Does Mawae have a point? Do his 2009 metrics indicate that his performance level is to blame for his current plight, or is he correct in directing the blame toward the current state of labor/management politics in the league?
On the other side of the pay wall: an analysis of Mawae (not pretty), Coles, Culpepper and Little. The Culpepper one is also surprising in many respects. For full access, you must be an ESPN Insider.
