RB much more likely first-round option for Packers

Brett Favre's future is in question, but Green Bay's bigger issue for 2006 is figuring out who will line up at running back.

There has been considerable speculation in recent weeks, as questions about the future of Brett Favre continue to mount, that the Green Bay Packers will consider using their first-round choice in the 2006 NFL draft on Matt Leinart, should the Southern Cal quarterback and 2004 Heisman Trophy winner be available at their top five spot in the opening stanza.

But don't count on it.

Sure, the Green Bay brass has fretted over who will be throwing the ball for the Packers in 2006, but the bigger concerns revolve around who will be running it. You don't win consistently in the NFC North, or in the league in general for that matter, without a viable running game. And if the Packers have a question mark dangling perilously over the quarterback position, well, the tailback position is an even bigger unsolved riddle.
