Raiders trying to sort out options for '06

Raiders QB Marques Tuiasosopo has yet to make his first start this season, but there's already talk of rookie Andrew Walter's getting some snaps.

Even though Marques Tuiasosopo was told this week that he will keep the No. 1 job for the balance of the season, essentially a four-game audition to assess his possibilities for the future, don't be surprised if the Oakland Raiders shuffle the quarterback depth chart one more time before the end of the year.

And, no, we're not talking about the demoted Kerry Collins, 8-17 as the starter over the last two seasons, returning to the lineup.

Some people in the Raiders organization are anxious to get a look at rookie Andrew Walter, a third-round pick from Arizona State, and a guy with the kind of monster arm that The Big Man, owner Al Davis, absolutely loves. The strapping Walter (6-foot-5½ and 235 pounds) threw for 10,617 yards and 85 touchdowns during his college career, and those numbers might have been even bigger had he not suffered a shoulder injury in his senior campaign. He is a pocket passer, often prone to mistakes and misjudgments, as evidenced by 36 career interceptions, but is the kind of vertical passer the Raiders need to get the ball to their sprint relay quartet of wide receivers Randy Moss, Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry (currently sidelined) and Doug Gabriel.
