Now that the free-agent market has taken off, I thought it would be a good time to review the impact some of the new acquisitions might have on their new teams.
When I first heard cornerback Fred Smoot was signing with Washington, I thought this might be another instance of the Redskins' front office overpaying for a player whose performance levels don't match his reputation. After reviewing the metrics, however, I think this acquisition looks much more promising than some of the Skins' recent moves (such as Brandon Lloyd and Adam Archuleta). Here are Smoot's overall metrics from the 2006 season:
