Personnel Points: Jones concerns
The Oklahoma QB still profiles as good pro, but questions are mounting
Each week, Mel Kiper gives updates on another group of prospects who have caught his eye, some well-known, others well under the radar.
Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse Orange
In a losing effort against Pittsburgh, I was very impressed by the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Jones. As a redshirt freshman in '09, he showed considerable promise, finishing third on the team with 10 tackles for loss. As a sophomore, he added pass-rush ability to the equation with four of his 9.5 tackles for loss resulting in sacks. His knack for being around the football resulted in him once again leading the Orange D-line in tackles with 57. Upon coming back from a knee injury this season that forced him to miss five games, Jones immediately made his presence felt in Syracuse's upset win over West Virginia (two sacks and six tackles).
Against the Panthers on Saturday, he did a very good job of using his hands to quickly disengage from blockers. He located the football quickly and made his presence felt against the run. Jones generated heat on the quarterback and even came up with an interception. With a good senior year, Jones has a chance to secure a first-round grade.
Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma Sooners
